The saga of Devi Vishwakumar's high school career (and her never ending streak of bad, impulsive choices) finally comes to a close with Season 4 of Never Have I Ever, which officially dropped on Netflix today, June 8. Still, some fans might be wondering what happens after the graduation caps are thrown and the newly anointed college freshman move into their dorms? It'll pain some to hear that, unfortunately, there will be no Season 5 of the beloved coming-of-age comedy.

Netflix previously confirmed that Never Have I Ever would be renewed for the show's fourth and final season back in March 2022. Show creator Mindy Kaling explained why it made sense to end the series after four seasons during an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year.

"Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense," she said. "They can’t be in high school forever. We've seen those shows. Like, you've been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors get older and it starts looking insane that a 34-year-old is playing a 15-year-old."

In Season 4, Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) suffers through some final senior year hijinks (see: a vandalized car, a troubled tour of Princeton, and a limo car crash en route to prom). Besides college admissions, Devi will also have to make her romantic pick: will it be rival-turned-lover Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison), lifelong crush Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet), or new bad boy Ethan (Michael Cimino)?

While the Season 4 finale neatly wraps up Devi's story, some viewers are still hankering for a deep dive into the stories of Devi's friends and family. A spin-off series may especially make sense as her trio of besties—Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), Eleanor (Ramona Young), and Aneesa (Megan Suri)—embark on their post-high school journeys.

Kaling hasn't totally shut down the idea of doing a spin-off.

"I absolutely would consider doing that if there was a demand," she said in an interview with PopSugar. "I've never thought about a spinoff actually. It's a fun thought experiment, but I haven't actually thought of one."

When asked which character she'd most be interested in exploring for a potential spin-off, Kaling selected Trent (Benjamin Norris), Paxton's air-headed best friend and Eleanor's puppy dog boyfriend. "Honestly, he's so funny to me," Kalin explained. "He really makes me laugh, so finding out [more about] Trent and seeing what his haircare routine is every morning. I would definitely watch that show. I'd definitely like to write that show."
