Every Incredible Outfit Lady Gaga Has Blessed Us With While Promoting 'A Star Is Born'
There could be 100 outfits in the room...
Any Little Monster can tell you that Lady Gaga has always been ahead of the ever-changing and often unpredictable game of fashion. (Hard to believe, but The Fame–era Gaga will turn 13 this year! Heck, Joanne and her pink hat came out six years ago.) With A Star Is Born, it seems like Gaga the fashion icon has fully arrived. This is her moment, one that’s supported by Bradley Cooper, the legacy of her character Ally, and the strength of all the aahs Gaga delivers in “Shallow.”
Go ahead, give your face a once-over like Ally before she joined Jackson onstage, and take another look at Gaga’s A Star Is Born wardrobe. You know Jackson would.
Arriving to the Venice Film Festival - August 2018
For the film's world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Gaga arrived via water taxi while wearing a Jonathan Simkhai resort cocktail dress and matching pumps, complete with a rose. BRB, going to listen to her version of "La Vie en Rose" and cry.
Photo Call at the Venice Film Festival - August 2018
Lady Gaga blew way too many kisses during the promo tour for A Star Is Born, said no one ever. For her second outfit in Venice, Gaga channeled Marilyn Monroe thanks to this low-cut Azzedine Alaia dress. Somewhere, the ghost of Marilyn and Ally's single tear after her wedding are squealing with joy.
Photo Call at the Venice Film Festival - August 2018
Us: "Hey."
Gaga: "What?" (Bradley: "It's raining?")
Us: "Just wanted to take another look at that white dress."
Premiere of 'A Star Is Born' at the Venice Film Festival - August 2018
Gaga was in full-on princess mode for the film's Venice premiere, though Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli probably would've preferred "flamingo mode"—the dress is named "Flamingo." If you fainted at the sight of this dress the first time, make sure you're sitting down for the next slide.
Premiere of 'A Star Is Born' at the Venice Film Festival - August 2018
Presenting: the Flamingo in motion at the Venice premiere of A Star Is Born. See? Told you it was going to be epic.
'A Star Is Born' Press Conference at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
Like Jackson once said to Ally, "All you gotta do is trust me," and that's probably what Gaga's style team said to her when they were discussing red-carpet outfits for A Star Is Born. Here, Gaga oozes old Hollywood in a Victoria Beckham dress with a chic updo.
The Entertainment Weekly TIFF Party - September 2018
"Hair Body Face" might not be your favorite song from the soundtrack (let's talk), but that's one way to describe everything Gaga is serving here. Quick, someone tell Ally to record a remix of the song and call it "Hair Body Face Leg."
'A Star Is Born' Press Conference at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
Why bother with casual when you can wear velvet to a press conference? That's exactly what Gaga did with this Ralph and Russo creation. If you need a break from all this fashion greatness, might I suggest watching this compilation of Gaga saying, "There can be 100 people in the room"?
'A Star Is Born' Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
Those who thought Gaga had already reached peak A Star Is Born fashion in Venice found themselves gasping for air a few weeks later when our queen stepped out in this Armani Privé dress at the Toronto premiere of the movie. We don't deserve Gaga. Or this veil.
'A Star Is Born' Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
JK, we deserve ALL. OF. THIS. Here, Gaga also displays her range of emotions. If the previous slide was serious (like, mourning the death of Jackson serious), this one qualifies as pure joy (like, snuggling with Bradley Cooper's goldendoodle joy).
'A Star Is Born' Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
FYI, Gaga wore four different outfits for premiere day of A Star Is Born in Toronto. This is outfit number three, a slip dress by Armani. Again, "Hair Body Face" totally applies here.
After-Party for 'A Star Is Born' Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival - September 2018
If anyone can pull off a black-and-pink velvet gown that reminds me of both an oyster shell and a cupcake, it's Gaga. Ralph and Russo are also responsible for this and we are eternally grateful.
'A Star Is Born' Hollywood Premiere - September 2018
Is "dress for the award you want" a thing? If so, here is Gaga channeling all the hardware she's collected for the film (including "Shallow" reaching platinum status). This silver gown, complete with a matching train, is by Givenchy's Clare Waight Keller, who of course designed Meghan Markle's wedding gown.
'A Star Is Born' Press in London - September 2018
No, Gaga isn't in the Charlie's Angels reboot (imagine though?); this is just another fire promo-tour look from when Jackson and Ally took their talents to London.
'A Star Is Born' Premiere in London - September 2018
Consider this Gaga's audition for the next big budget Shakespeare movie (with director Bradley Cooper, of course). For the UK premiere of A Star Is Born, Gaga stepped out in this Alexander McQueen lace gown. Seriously, the collar deserves an award.
Taping of 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' - October 2018
Gaga's fashion tour A Star Is Born promo schedule also included a late-night TV visit. Leave it to Gaga to make a messy topknot and giant velvet bow (part of a strapless Marc Jacobs outfit) work like a charm.
SAG-AFTRA Foundation's 3rd Annual Patron of the Artists Awards - November 2018
If Gaga ever wants to reprise the role of Ally in a sequel where she ditches singing for ballet, here's all the proof you need that the movie has to 100 percent happen. Bless Gaga and this nude Dior tulle gown she wore to this SAG-AFTRA event.
10th Annual Governors Awards Gala - November 2018
By now, you're probably thinking, there's got to be at least one bad outfit here, right? Nope. Here's another winner (a strapless Maison Valentino gown) Gaga wore to the Governors Awards. If you need yet another break (I get it, fashion can be an emotional thing), grab some tissues and watch Gaga and Bradley perform "Shallow" live for the first time since the movie.
32nd American Cinematheque Award - November 2018
What can't Gaga wear? We may never know, so let's celebrate this Azzedine Alaïa halter dress that puts all other halter dresses to shame.
76th Annual Golden Globe Awards - January 2019
The greatest debate of 2019 (so far) was the color of Gaga's Valentino couture dress. In the end, periwinkle came out on top, and Gaga took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for "Shallow." I'm still not ready to talk about her loss from that night.
