Spend enough time on your phone, and sleekly advertised products will become your shadow. Sometimes you're followed around Instagram by a swimsuit, other times you can't stop seeing an artistically designed blender.

I assumed there was a glitch in the algorithm when an ad for the Favorite Pant, $218 high-waisted, pleated trousers by Favorite Daughter, started appearing all over my feeds. I'm not quite the target for minimalist, model-off-duty-type pants. My day-to-day style tends toward billowing, cottagecore-y dresses and bow-embellished accessories. Though some choice wardrobe capsule kits have recently convinced me to slip into trousers, I'm not lusting after The Row's Igor khakis in my spare time. So I was skeptical the Favorite Pant could live up to its name.

But the more I saw of the Favorite Pant, the more interested I became. Heaps of verified reviews calling these pants "incredible," "amazing," and "beautiful" only made me more curious. So I finally tried the pants for myself.

Plot twist: The Favorite Pant changed my perspective on pants. The waist hits at the perfect height. The legs are wide, but not so voluminous that they drag on the ground. The material is soft, but holds its structured pleating through several wears. Pulling them on makes me feel like a Hadid sister leaving a SoHo hotel on a random Wednesday afternoon. They're effortless—and an instant confidence boost.

Hundreds of other women who've ordered the pants seem to have found the same instantaneous connection. "We launched in May of 2021, and it was a hit right away, selling out immediately," Favorite Daughter's design director, Carla Calvelo, tells me. "The response took us all by surprise." Once women buy pairs in the core colors, beige and black, they come back for seasonal shades like navy pinstripe, Calvelo adds.

Why such widespread appeal? Jamie Henry, women's contemporary buyer at Nordstrom, tells me these pants check all the boxes for a good pair of trousers. They're made from a lightweight yet opaque knit, and they're amenable to all kinds of footwear.

Favorite Daughter's style director, Jordan Foster, sums it up best: "The look is elevated, but still cool." An under-$250 price tag doesn't hurt either.

There's also a true versatility factor. You're not only wearing the pants with a blazer as part of a suit, as Favorite Daughter cofounders (and sisters) Sara and Erin Foster tell me. Sara alternates between dressing them down with sweatshirts and Nikes, and dressing them up with bodysuits. Erin goes full casual, wearing them under an unbuttoned shirt and tank top from the brand.

After wearing the Favorite Pant to the office (with a cropped cardigan, chunky loafers, and a quilted jacket) and on the weekend (with a long-sleeved bodysuit and heels), I had to concede to all the reviewers who came before me. These are, quite frankly, my favorite pants. Sometimes, the algorithm is right all along.

The Favorite Pant is available in sizes 0-18 at Favorite Daughter, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie.
