13 Things Rickie De Sole Would Buy Again
The Nordstrom women’s fashion director discusses a new dress label she loves, a sentimental Prada summer tote, and sunglasses she’s already bought three times

Many fashion devotees consider ’90s Italian fashion a formative style influence. Rickie De Sole, women’s fashion and editorial director for Nordstrom, lived it. She grew up in Italy while her father, Domenico De Sole, was president and CEO of Tom Ford's Gucci, and Prada was starting a minimalist streak that’s still reverberating through the industry today. These houses' design codes were absorbed into De Sole’s style DNA by proximity. “Some of my first purchases were from that era,” De Sole reflects, “and I love seeing them come to life again, like the horsebit clutch that just made its runway return this season.”
The fashion expert says she’s a “creature of habit,” style-wise, with one recent exception: “The Prada skirt of the moment is welcomed newness in my closet that I never regret.” As De Sole worked her way up from assistant-level roles at Vanity Fair and Prada to a directorship at Vogue and her present role at Nordstrom, she absorbed a mode of dressing exemplified by industry legends like Edward Enninful, Tonne Goodman, and Michael Roberts. “Each of them mastered, in their own way, the idea of uniform dressing, and over time I’ve come to embrace it too.”
De Sole’s spin on it is elegant and tailored, with long hemlines and close-fitting silhouettes getting the most play. Her commitment to the look went all the way to the 2023 Met Gala, where she wore a Bode ribboned sheath dress with two blue bows tied at each hip. “Anyone who knows me well knows I love a good knit dress or top with a coordinating midi skirt,” De Sole says. “It’s the perfect foil for good jewelry and pairs perfectly in winter with my favorite Celine boots.” With summer on the horizon, she’ll transition to T-shirts, Manolo heels, and a printed skirt—“more often than not, Prada or Proenza,” she says—to intersperse with her Lucky 13 items, ahead.
